Hall’s Bookshop traditionally buys books in West Kent, East Sussex and South-Eastern Surrey. We may be prepared to travel further afield, but recommend that those who do live beyond this radius should phone or e-mail us with full details, preferably including photographs.
We are currently interested in purchasing books in these subject areas:
- Kent and Sussex topography and history.
- Modern first editions.
- Collectible children’s books.
- Leather bound books.
- Antiquarian and rare books.
- Music and dance.
- Folio Society.
- Art and Photography.
- Ancient history, archaeology and Classical literature, either in translation or the original text with commentary, e.g. the Loeb Classical Library.
Tuesday is our main ‘buying day’, though books can also be offered on other days by appointment – please call or e-mail in advance.
Due to space constraints we do not regularly buy large collections, but we will view any books offered locally. If you have more than five large boxes of books for sale, it is generally easier for us to come to you.
We are happy to arrange for a house call locally to look at a larger quantity of books. For convenience we welcome lists of books for sale or enquiries via post or e-mail with details of the author, title, condition, edition, and photographs if possible.
We are able to offer an informal valuation and opinion on a reasonable number of volumes brought into the shop, but we currently do not offer a formal appraisal service for purposes of probate or insurance.
We also offer a full professional bookbinding and restoration service, as the example below of a family Bible shows.
If you have any questions or queries please give us a call on 01892 527842 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
